The recovery of the economy causes the packaging industry to grow, and with that, the chances for innovative materials. In the future, we will aim for an economy in which we only use sustainably produced, renewable or commonly available raw materials, and in which packaging has to be designed in such a way that it is suitable for high-quality recycling.
This means that there has to be a market for new, innovative materials and packaging design that offers alternatives to the current, oil-based and unrecyclable packaging such as potato chips bags. In the future, packaging has to meet new, clearly formulated goals:
- Replacing fossil, exhaustible and not-sustainably produced raw materials by sustainably produced, renewable and inexhaustible raw materials.
- Redesigning packaging material so that it can be recycled with as high a quality as possible.
The path to material innovation within the packaging industry is open!
